Position Overview

The Dispatcher, Intermodal position holds the key responsibility of contracting, scheduling, dispatching, monitoring, and managing carriers to ensure on-time delivery resulting in revenue growth and profitability. The Dispatcher provides support to Container Drayage Operation by holding carriers accountable for ensuring quality service to customers and following all local, state, and federal rules, policies, procedures, and compliance. The Dispatcher will be responsible for updating operation related data to TMS, communicating with carriers and customers of any changes or any incidents, and ensuring all carriers have correct equipment and documents for pick up /delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with the appropriate personnel to ensure on-time delivery by tracking trucks for pick-up, estimating times of arrival and delivery, and recovering loads when necessary
  • Cultivate strong relationships with carriers and warehouse
  • Ensure carriers have the correct equipment and documents for their pick-ups/deliveries
  • Monitor out-gate and in-gate to avoid per diem and other charges
  • Update Transportation Management System with current shipment information
  • Ensure that all billable charges are recorded and that all necessary documentation is collected and recorded correctly
  • Prevent any unnecessary company charges or liabilities
  • Assist claims regarding any customer issues with cargo
  • Track and trace shipments
  • Dispatch shipment orders
  • Keep the Operations Manager informed about carrier, dispatch, shipment issues as they occur
  • Understanding of FMCSA rules/guidelines as relates to dispatch & carrier/load selection
  • Other duties as assigned by Operations Manager

Required

  • Minimum 1 year in transportation, specifically in a dispatching position handling intermodal freight
  • Korean/English Bilingual (Preferred)
  • Must be familiar with the intermodal dispatch procedure
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; expertise in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Strong problem solving, decision making, critical thinking, and negotiations skills
  • Strong written and communication skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel, customers, and vendors
  • Ability to set priorities, achieve deadlines, and manage multiple tasks at the same time
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Task oriented with strong organizational and time management skills
  • Thorough understanding of transportation modes and solutions
  • Familiarity with Routing and Scheduling
  • Industry knowledge and terminology
